Mothers Love

Mothers Love

About This Campaign

Amanda’s cupboard is bare. “I was down to a can of soup, a bottle of ketchup and half a loaf of bread, which had to last me and my 12 year old son for five more days,” said Amanda, a 35 year old single mom.

She shared her story at United Food Bank’s Help Yourself Food Co-op one Friday morning. “I’m not used to asking for help. I didn’t want something for free, just affordable and healthy food, some meats and vegetables. I’ve always been used to helping others and it’s been so hard to ask for help. When I brought the food home, my 12 year old son was so excited. And to hear him say, ‘Mom, I’m full’ for the first time in as long as I can remember.”

I can’t imagine Amanda’s heartache at hearing her son’s stomach growl with hunger. As Mother’s Day approaches, I am reminded of moms, like Amanda, who quietly struggle to feed their families.
United Food Bank

Campaign to Support United Food Bank

United Food Bank was organized in 1983 as a nonprofit joint venture among East Valley cities and their respective United Ways to gather and distribute food to organizations that help our neighbors in need. United Food Bank has since become the key provider of food resources to agencies and community groups in the Greater East Valley and Eastern Arizona who feed thousands of men, women and children 365 days a year. United Food Bank is a member of Feeding America, a national network of over 200 food banks that provides connections to national food companies and other important resources.

No child should go hungry. No mother should have to hear her child cry in hunger. My mother sacrificed a great deal to keep us safe, feed and clothed. She is my hero. She often went without to ensure her children had what they needed. She is a loving mother, beautiful woman and amazing friend. I happily give this donation in her honor - Happy Mother’s Day Mama.

My Grandmother who often went hungry, being Native American. She still gave to the poor, even though she was poor too.
